Bakersfield born and raised, Fanucchi had been involved with countless community organizations in various endeavors. His love for Bakersfield College and Garces High School has enriched those school’s programs in athletics and academics. In 1946, he was one of the founders of the BC Alumni Foundation, the first alumni organization for any Junior College in the U.S. In 1953, he was co-chair for the first BC Athletic Barbeque. At Garces, he has been actively involved with the semi-annual barbeques that have helped raise nearly $1 million for the school’s athletic and academic programs. The school’s varsity baseball field was named David Fanucchi Field in 1992. He founded the Cub Scout Baseball League in 1958 and was on the Board of Directors for the Bob Elias Hall or Fame 1972 to 2002. Fanucchi was in the U.S. Army during World War II where he earned two Battle Stars for action it the Solomon Islands and a Purple heart after being wounded in action.
