The name George Pavletich has been synonymous with sports broadcasting in this area for the past quarter-century. Now retired, he becomes the first radio play-by-play man to be honored by inclusion in to the county's sports shrine. Kern County all the way (raised in McFarland), Pavletich started broadcasting as a hobby and became addicted. He started with high school games and eventually became the voice of Bakersfield College football and Cal State Bakersfield basketball. Pavletich, an electrician by trade, showed his ingenuity repeatedly by overcoming technical problems various venues to guarantee that the account of the games would always get though to the listeners at home. He was also a familiar figure as master of ceremonies on the local sports banquet circuit. Pavletich has also been generous with his time in various community programs.
