Joe Seay

Inducted February, 1981

An outstanding wrestler in high school and at Kansas State, Joe Seay’s coaching ability has put Bakersfield on the national collegiate sports map. Hired by Cal State Bakersfield in 1972 to start a wrestling program, he had the Roadrunners contending for national honors within a few years. Four national titles in the last five years testify to his success, and he is the first Div. II coach ever named not only coach-of-the-year among his peers on that level, but in Div I as well. Before moving to CSB, he compiled an outstanding record at South High. As a competitor, he was national champion in college, and placed second in the Olympic Trials while well into his 30’s. Seay’s induction opens the door of the Hall of Fame to wrestling for his first time.
