Football fans the national over know all about Louis Wright, recognized as one of the finest cornerbacks in the National Football League, and three times chosen for the Pro Bowl. But the fast and rangy Bakersfield High product was known as much for his track and field exploits, particularly as a long jumper, before he blossomed as an outstanding pro grid prospect at San Jose State, after stints at Arizona State and Bakersfield College. He has started for all six of his seasons in the pro ranks, after being the No. 1 draft pick of Denver Broncos in 1975. He held the BHS long jump record (24-4), the mark which earned him the Valley title in 1970.
