Monty Reedy

coach

Inducted February 22, 1989

Reedy, who currently is a member of the Bob Elias Hall of Fame board of directors, is a Taft product who was a standout high school athlete and late played quarterback for the University of California Golden Bears. He quarterbacked the 1930 Taft High Wildcats to the Valley football championship with a 10-2-3 record, including a 19-6 victory over Bakersfield High. He was also a four-letter winner in basketball. Off the field, Reedy was a member of the scholarship society, was student body president and was active in publication and music groups. Returning to Taft High, Reedy taught and coached baseball and football for 35 years until his retirement in the early 1970's. The Taft High baseball field is named in his honor, and it was there that his latest coaching achievement, the Valley baseball championship, was accomplished in 1970.
