Was longtime sports editor of the Taft Midway Driller but left a bigger impact as a coach in the shot and discus. His tutoring of Leon Patterson helped Patterson set a national high school record in the shot put, the first prep to surpass 60 feet, Continued to work with young athletes and later was a renowned track and field official and highly regarded in the Amateur Athletic Union, which oversaw amateur track in the United States at the time. Was an official at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. In addition to coaching and sports writing, he handled athletic training at Taft High School and oversaw the recreation department for the city of Taft for more than 30 year.
