Inducted 2025

The 1996 Centennial girls volleyball team culminated with one of the greatest seasons in Kern County history with a CIF State Division I state champion, capping a three-year run where the Golden Hawks advanced to the state finals, winning the D-II title in 1995 and the national title in 1996 by Volleyball Magazine and USA Today.
Under head coach Brooke Roberts, the ascension for the team was unprecedented. Without a senior on campus for the young school, Centennial wining the first of four consecutive Central Section titles and CIF SoCal regional playoffs with only sophomores and freshman starting.

Still, without a senior on roster, the Golden Hawks won the South Sequoia League title and the small-school section title before advancing to the state D-III finals with an overall record of 30-7.

In 1995, Centennial, still with just two seniors, won the section small-school title for a second consecutive year and won the state D-II title.

The culmination in 1996, Centennial moved into the South Yosemite League and went undefeated in league and winning the section title for a fourth consecutive season and the state D-I title.

The Golden Hawks are still the only team from Kern County to win two state titles, winning every playoff game, including the state finals, in straight sets.

The Bakersfield Californian named the 1996 team “The greatest high school volleyball team in Kern County history” while winning the final 28 matches of the season while producing eight NCAA Division I full-ride scholarships and three more that played in D-II in college.
