Al Kirkland

Al Kirkland, a fine football player and teammate of Frank Gifford, played the game four years at Bakersfield High, two at Bakersfield College and two at USC. Kirckland played on a Valley championship B.H.S team, then as a back for the B.C. Renegades, became the California Junior College scoring leader in1950. In the 1953 Rose bowl game, won by the USC Trojans 7-0 over Wisconsin, Kirkland made his presence known. Kirkland turned to pro rugby playing for Australia in 1955 and England the following year. He was involved in introducing Kangaroo track shoes from Australia to the USA, and is now engaged in importing football equipment being manufactured in Taiwan.
