Billy Mackey

Inducted February 15, 2001

Born and raised in Bakersfield, he earned 10 letters as an athlete at East High. Mackey was the first local athlete to be named as a first team All-American in track and field when he set the national 180-yard low hurdle record in 1960. He also excelled in football, rushing for 1,059 yards and 20 touchdowns during his senior year. He played football at Bakersfield College and Michigan State, and was a split end, kick returner and part-time halfback for the Los Angeles Rams in 1964-65. Injuries shorted his pro career.
