Bob Covey

Bob Covey has been the head track and field coach at Bakersfield College for over 26 years. The Iowa native came to BC after one year as an assistant coach at Oregon State. Covey, whose father was a coach at Ames, Iowa, High School, won 10 letters in football, basketball, and track, and was undefeated in high school in the quarter-mile, an event he later ran for the University of Kansas, where he was a member of an NCAA Championship team in 1959. At Bakersfield College, Covey has has two state championship teams and six Southern California champions. He twice was named conference coach-of-the-year. In addition, he has been involved in national and international track, as a coach and manager, has been a National Sports Festival meet coordinator, was an official in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, and is presently West regional chairman for the Olympic Men's Development Committee.
