Bob Sheldon
benefactorInducted February 22, 1989
Dr. Bob Sheldon, a former Bakersfield High and Bakersfield College football player, was team physician for BHS for 35 years and, along with Dr. Romain Clerou, became a sideline fixture at games of the Drillers and the Bakersfield College Renegades. He now becomes the second team doctor to enter the Bob Elias Hall of Fame, following Clerou, who was inducted in 1980. Those two didn't miss a BC game, home or away, for about 25 years. Besides providing a medical presence on the sidelines, Sheldon provided free physicals for BHS team candidates. After starting out as a running back, Shaldon developed into an outstanding tackle for the Drillers and Renegades, before giving up the sport to concentrate on his medical studies at Stanford. Sheldon also participated in the weight events in track and field. An eye, ear, nose and throat specialist, he is still in full-time medical practice in Bakersfield.
