Inducted February 16, 1995
Chet Foss, being inducted into the Bob Elias Hall of Fame posthumously, is recognized as a tremendous benefactor of gold in the community and a friend to legions of public golfers. After coming to Bakersfield as an assistant at Stockdale, Foss became pro in 1951 of what was then known as the Kern River "rock pile" and was caretaker and guiding light of the county's most popular course until his death 40 years later. A New Hampshire native, Foss' friendly manner and personal credo of providing the best possible service to all golfers made him popular at the course now known as Foss-Kern River. He spread golf to the community through senior tournaments, the Kern Amateur championship, free junior lessons and various other programs.
