Graduate of Bakersfield High School where he was a standout athlete. Starting quarterback in 1949 at Bakersfield College. Member of track team at BC. President of Associated Men's Students. All-Scholastic team 1950. Led University of California team in pass receiving and kickoff returns in 1952. Set Cal record for kickoff returns against UCLA in 1952. Participated in Shrine East-West game 1952. All-American nomination. Philadelphia Eagles professional football team in 1953 where he was named "Rookie of the Year." Led team in ground gaining and scored three touchdowns against Baltimore and three against New York Giants. Sidelined with serious knee injury in 1954. Daughters Mellissa and Pamela, son Jeff.
