Graduated from South High in 1963, Bakersfield College in 1965 and UCLA in 1967. Tivnon earned his medical degree at UC Irvine in 1971 and returned to Bakersfield to begin his medical practice in 1978. He has been one of BC's team doctors since 1981 and also served as the team doctor at Garces High from 1978-80, West High from 1981-83, Cal State Bakersfield from 1978-2007, the Bakersfield Blitz indoor football team from 2002-07 and the Bakersfield Blaze from 1998-2000. He also volunteered as a team doctor at Blair high in Pasadena and at Fullerton College during his residency for orthopedic surgery at UC Irvine. Tivnon is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine. He was certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in 1977 and recertified in 1994 and 2004. He was also board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in Orthopedic Sports Medicine in 2007.
