Gloria Friedman

Born and raised in Bakersfield, Friedman was an outstanding tennis player, playing No. 1 at Bakersfield High, Bakersfield College and UC, Santa Barbra. Won three CIF Central Section singles titles in high school while going undefeated in league play. Was the 1968 National Parks singles and doubles championship. She was a two-time USTA winner and won the Canadian 16-and under Clay Court Championship while representing Bakersfield. As the first coach she founded women’s tennis program at Cal State Bakersfield, compiling a 348-180 record in her 27-year coaching career, including 171-7 in conference play. She remains with the university as a senior associate athletic director and teaches in the School of Business, where she initiated a Sports Management Program.
