A great sports benefactor in Kern County. In a 50-year career in charge of Bakersfield's Coca Cola plant, he sponsored numerous athletic teams and individuals. He assisted the sponsorship of the first Pee Wee Softball League in 1947, was a co-founder of the Junior Baseball Association in 1949, joined with Roy Foster to organize the first Shrine Potato Bowl, helped sponsor the first youth soccer program in Bakersfield in 1975, and initiated and sponsored the Sam Lynn Trophy to honor outstanding male and female athletes from local high schools and Bakersfield College.
