Harvel Pollard

Born and raised in Wasco, Harvel was a 4-sport athlete at Wasco High. Played football at Bakersfield College in 1950 and 1955, with a four-year U.S. Air Force stint in between. Graduated from San Jose State where he was a football standout and a two-time Academic All-American. He was named MVP and the University's All Sport Athlete of the Year in 1957. Coached and taught at South High for three years, became Foothill High's first varsity head football coach in 1962. Joined the BC staff in 1965 and spent 27 years as an assistant coach with Duane Damron, Walk Johnson and Carl Bowser, producing numerous conference and Potato Bowl champions and two National Championship teams - in 1976 and 1988. Inducted as a charter member of the BC football Hall of Fame in 1999.
