Lake Lovelace


Inducted February 1969

A fighter pilot in World War I, resided in Bakersfield since shortly after that time. Was the founder of the first public tennis courts in Jastro Park and became the city's frist teaching professional. Gave untold free lessons and encouraged large numbers to play tennis. Became manager and teaching professional at the Bakersfield Racquet Club in 1948. Crippled by a serious circulatory disease, gave lessons from a wheelchair. Developed and advisor to former state champion Louis Snow, national junior champion Sally Moore and former world number one amateur Dennis Ralston.
