Mark Hutson

In a 38-year boys basketball coaching career, Hutson holds the CIF Central Section record for most career wins with a 517-275 record. A 1967 East High graduate, he played for legendary Blades’ coach Ralph Krafve and began his coaching career as an assistant for Krafve at Bakersfield College in 1973. The bulk of his career was at Bakersfield High, where his teams went 432-162 from 1979-2000. The Drillers won at least 20 games 13 times during his tenure, won or shared 11 league championships, won four Central Section titles, placed second in the Valley four times and reached the Valley semifinals seven other times. He took a break from coaching after leaving BHS, then returned to coach at Taft High for five seasons from 2006-10, at Wasco in 2012 and at Highland in 2016. Hutson was an assistant when BC won the only state basketball title in the school’s history in the 1977-78 season.
