A Bakersfield High graduate who excelled in football and baseball, then played football and rugby as a collegiate athlete at Stanford and UC Santa Barbara. In addition to being named Lineman of the Year as an All-City pick in high school. Preston was an honorable mention All-Coast player at Stanford. He coached football four years at Hanford High School and became Bakersfield High’s varsity football coach in 1986. His 138-38-2 record as a football coach ranks 15th in the CIF Central Section in wins, and his Driller’s team set a section record with 39 straight wins from 1988-90. His teams won eight league and four section championships.
