Pat Skrable

A 1966 graduate of Bakersfield High, Skrableis one of the greatest all-around athletes ever produced in Kern County. Starring for the Drillers at running back for three years, Skrable is widely recognized as arguably the most versatile player and open-field runner in Central Section history. In Skrable's career the Drillers went 25-1-1. He was the first back-to-back recipient of the All-City (now All-Area) Back of the Year Award. Skrable was a first-team High School Football All-American, the first Kern County player to earn that honor. Skrable was selected for the North-South Shrine All-Star Game, the nation's premier post-season high school all-star game, where he caught two touchdown passesand was selected as the game's Most Outstanding Player. A three-year starter and two-time all-league outfielder at BHS, Skrable was a top draft choice by the Philadelphia Phillies and enjoyed a five-year career in pro baseball from 1967-71. Skrable is also a Charter Member of the Bakersfield High Hall of Fame.
