Randy Roberts

Coach

Inducted 2025

For two decades, Randy Roberts led the Centennial varsity baseball team as the school’s first varsity head baseball coach until his retirement in 2013.

During that time, the Golden Hawks went from a team without a league in the inaugural season in 1994 with just freshmen and sophomores on campus to one of the most dominant programs in the Central Section.

A six-time recipient of The Bakersfield Californian’s All-Area baseball coach of the year, Roberts led Centennial to 13 league championships and three Central Section titles in 2000, 2002 and 2007 while making the section finals six seasons.

During that time as the baseball head coach, the Golden Hawks won 76 percent of the games played (439-140) and coached the 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner, Corbin Burnes, while Burnes was in high school at Centennial.

Roberts was not only a great baseball coach, but also roamed the sidelines as an assistant football coach for Centennial from 1993 until 2003, including the final six seasons as the offensive coordinator.

He began his coaching career at North High in 1984, including three seasons as the Stars’ head football coach beginning in 1990. Taking over a program that went 3-7, Roberts led North to a 7-3 record in 1992.

He was also the head softball coach at North for seven seasons, winning five league titles, earning All-Area coach of the Year in 1988 and 1990. An astonishing feat leading the varsity football and softball programs at the same time for five seasons at North before helping to open Centennial in 1993.
