Robert Young

Former Bakersfield High, Bakersfield College and UCLA track star as a quarter and half-miler and long jumper, Bob Young made the U.S. team for the 1936 Olympics in Berlin and won a silver medal as a member of the 1,600-meter relay team which took second place, behind Great Britain. The following year he also took honors in an international meet in Japan. At one time, Young held a Bakersfield College long jump record which stood for 25 years. A Bakersfield native who was engaged in farming in San Luis Obispo County, Young is now retired and living in Bakersfield.
