Simon Tobin

A native of London, Tobin coached Cal State Bakersfield's men's soccer to a 307-189-54 record in 27 seasons after the program had only 14 wins and one conference victory in its eight-year history prior to Tobin's arrival in 1987. Seven squads earned West Regional berths capped by the 20-4 Div. II national championship team in 1997. CSUB moved to Div. I in 2007 and by 2010 was ranked as high as No.13 in the nation. In 2011, Tobin's squad earned CSUB's first-ever team appearance in a NCAA Div. I Tournament. Tobin helped start women's soccer at CSUB and coached both programs for 10 seasons. At last 23 former CSUB players have or are playing professionally. Tobin also played a pivotal role in the growth of youth soccer in Kern County with his camps and programs. Tobin left CSUB on Dec. 26 to become San Jose State's men's soccer coach.
