Born in Bakersfield in 1904. Attended local schools. Did not compete in athletics as young man, working as farmer. Four years on Stine School Board of Trustees. Instrumental in formation of Panama School District, spending seven years on board of Trustees. Became interested in running and in 1975 set age-division world records in the 100 meter and 200 meter sprints at age 70. The 100-meter mark still stood when inducted into the Hall of Fame. Actively involved in community. Wife Mae; children Wendell, Calvin, Norman and Elaine, all born on family farm on Wilson Road.
