Born in Bakersfield. Attended local schools. Member of two state championship football teams at Kern Union High School (Bakersfield HS). Won frosh numerals and three varsity letters in football and baseball at Stanford University. Played in two Rose bowls and was member of 1927 national championship team. Became head football coach at Bakersfield Junior College and generally credited as first coach of modern era of Renegade football in 1930. Went to Santa Barbara State in 1934, setting college’s best won-lost record. Instigator of NCAA Small College Division. Served as president two years; five years on NCAA television committee; six years on NCAA Executive Committee. Became registrar and admission officer at UC Santa Barbara. Installed Afghanistan physical training program. Wife Faith; son Theodore J., daughter Diana.
