The 1963 NCAA Track and Field champion in the 880 yard run at Oregon State and a health professor at Bakersfield College since 1966, Hoffman has established national and world records in numerous cycling time trials and age-group races from 1986-91. Hoffman did not take up cycling until using the sport as a rehabilitation tool following a serious motorcycle accident in 1979 when his right leg was broken in eight places. He was an assistant track coach at Bakersfield College in his first 12 years at the school. Hoffman was also a body builder at one time and won the Mr. Kern County contest in 1977. He also serves as a consultant for nutrition and exercise for various Kern County businesses and individuals and has authored numerous publication and articles on health, fitness and training.
