A native of Oildale- and stridently proud of that fact-Randy Rich started a glowing football career North of the River, one which rewarded him with high school and college stardom and even 4 1/2 years in the Nation Football League. At first glance, he was on the small side and the slow side for his specialties , running back, defensive back, punt, and kickoff returner. But aggressiveness and intense desire maximized his sills. A starring career at North High was capped by designate in 1972 as All-City player-of-the-year. At the University of New Mexico, Rich became the first freshman ever to start defensive backfield for the Lobos. He made the All-WAC team three years and led the nation in punt returns his senior year. in the NFL, Rich had two stints with Denver and one with Detroit, and was a member of one Bronco's Super Bowl Team. Now an evangelist, president and general manger of a Christian music station in Albuquerque, Rich is a motivation speaker to youth groups.
