Rocky Rasley, a Bakersfield native, was an extremely versatile athlete who starred in football at South High, Bakersfield College, and Oregon State before embarking on an eight-year career as an offensive guard for five teams in the National Football League. He still holds the discus record at South High, was a junior college All-American at BC and finished sixth in the unlimited division of the World Wrestling Games in Argentina in 1969. Rasley won Sam Lynn awards as the outstanding athlete at South in 1965 and two years later at BC, then was an All-Coast player for Dee Andros at Oregon State. A ninth-round draft choice of the Detroit Lions, he also played with New Orleans, Kansas City and Seattle before finishing his active career with the San Francisco 49ers in 1976.
